Headteacher's Weekly Message: 10th November 2017

STEM is thriving at Sarah Bonnell School

On Thursday we hosted a National Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) Day for our students. The day included a visit from the Medical Mavericks, where students had the chance to test out different medical materials. At lunch-time there was a range of exciting activities including a competition to see who could build a chair out of balloons. Students also had the chance to listen to talks from industry professionals, make their own binary bracelets and code with jelly belly beans.  Huge thanks to Ms Adel, Associate Senior Leader and Curriculum Leader for Computing who coordinated the events. Scholarship Opportunity for Sarah Bonnell girls at Cheltenham Ladies College

On Tuesday three of our students, Manisha Teji, Mansi Patel and Abida Hayat, travelled to Cheltenham Ladies College for their interviews and a tour of the building. All three girls have already been through a rigorous process of preparation and entrance exams and we wish them all the best with their applications. Aim High

Sarah Bonnell students excel at Shakespeare

On Wednesday Sarah Bonnell students performed Macbeth and Othello as part of the Shakespeare Schools Festival at Stratford Circus. Their performances were truly inspiring and showcased the hard work of our Drama department, with specific thanks to Ms Griffiths and Ms Jim for their work on directing the play. The words of the organiser of the Shakespeare’s Schools Festival at Stratford Circus say it all: “Another amazing production - a self-disciplined ensemble and a bold production played by students who are committed to the interpretation of the play. The brilliant use of space and props with some comical timings and excellent character choices truly helped the creation of a real connection with the audience.”  Be Proud

Helping your daughter to stay safe on-line

Thank you to all those parents and families that came along to the first of our parent workshops.  The first workshop was all about ‘On-line Safety’ and our Digital Leaders did a great job of sharing key ideas about on-line safety. One parent said ‘the Digital Leaders were brilliant, thank you for a well-organised and informative session’. Our next parent workshop is planned for Wednesday 10 January 2018 and will focus on ‘Emotional Health and Well-being’. Be Nice

Working with the community to help keep all young people in Newham safe

The event is being organised by Newham London, Metropolitan Police and Newham Voluntary and Community and Faith groups in response to the recent increase in gun and knife crime and serious youth violence across East London. All parents/carers, students, community groups and organisations are welcome to attend to share ideas about how to implement positive actions to tackle youth safety in Newham.
