On Tuesday 2 July Sarah Bonnell demonstrated their brilliant attitudes to physical health and activity by taking part in our annual sports day. This year, students in Year 7, 8 and 9 showcasing their talent and determination. The day was very well planned and organised by Ms Sangster, Deputy Headteacher and our amazing PE team: Curriculum Leader, Ms Norley-Beck, Ms Nicholson, Ms Barnard and Ms Sawyer who were helped by staff from across the school taking on lots of important duties during the day – scorers, place judges, time keepers, track officials, first aiders or generally supervising the students who were participating or in the crowd. Mr Bentley did a great job as compere for the day on the PA system. Be Proud.
The girls also did themselves proud competing in traditional events like javelin, 4 x 100m relay, high jump and 100m as well as some fun events like tug -of-war, ‘over and under’ and the egg and spoon race.
Year 11 Prom
On Friday 28 June we welcomed back Year 11 in their finest clothes for their Year 11 Prom – this special event gave the girls a chance to celebrate their time at Sarah Bonnell and say goodbye. Staff and Year 10 Prefects worked hard to transform the Piazza and Assembly Hall. There was a DJ, Photo booth, balloons and lots of smiles. The girls all looked happy as they walked up the red carpet and I know they enjoyed a lovely celebration of their time here. I would like to say a big thank you to Ms Whitfield, Ms Whitehouse and Mr Archer for all their hard work preparing for this special event and to the Year 10 prefect team and staff who helped on the night. Be Nice
Year 6 Induction Day
On Thursday 27 June our new cohort of Year 7 students visited Sarah Bonnell for the day. The students took part in a range of different activities to help them build friendships, meet staff and learn their way around the school site. The feedback from students was very positive – one student said she felt ‘really excited’ about coming to Sarah Bonnell and another said she had ‘a brilliant day’. Welcome to the Sarah Bonnell family !
Greenhouse Tennis Programme
Sarah Bonnell is getting in to the spirit of Wimbledon by making plans for the launch of our Greenhouse Tennis Programme in September 2019. This programme involves having a resident professional tennis coach on site to develop the sport both in PE lessons and during after-school and holiday activities. We are currently recruiting for a coach – if you know anyone who is interested, get in touch with the school.
Our collaboration with Newham Community Schools Trust goes from strength to strength as we have just appointed staff to take a lead on collaboration projects across our three schools.
