Students at Sarah Bonnell celebrate another year of outstanding results

Students at Sarah Bonnell School in Stratford are celebrating another year of outstanding GCSE results today.

Overall, almost two-thirds of students (65%) at the all-girls’ school achieved an A*-C grade in both English and Maths. The English results are particularly impressive, with 89% achieving A* to C.

The school has consistently been a top performer over the last five years, with more than 60% of students achieving at least the key headline measure (which until this year was the achievement of five or more GCSEs at C or better including in English and maths) every year since 2012 – exceeding the national and local authority average every year.

Students at the Deanery Road school achieved particularly highly in academic subjects, with more than a third (37%) achieving the EBacc this year to continue last year’s strong performance in this measure. The school has also seen an improvement in the Attainment 8 figure from 2015.

The school’s focus on nurturing high aspirations in its students has made it hugely popular with parents, being over-subscribed for each of the last five years. Sarah Bonnell School will shortly become an academy, part of the Newham Community Schools Trust – enabling it to “go from good to great”.

The school is extremely proud of all its students, some of whom have made exceptional progress from their starting points to exceed expectations, while others have gained more than 10 GCSEs all at A* and A grade. Individual successes include:

  •          Mirana Kqiqu and Maisha Chowdhury, who attained nine A* grades and two A grades
  •          Amalia Hancig and Emma Norfolk, who each achieved seven A* grades amongst their results.

Sarah Jacobs, Headteacher, said:

“I am so proud of our immensely talented students, whose hard work and dedication, backed up by great teaching and the support of their parents, has led to these fantastic results today.

“I would like to congratulate each and every one of our students, and wish them the very best for the next chapter in their lives – they have set themselves up for success.

“At Sarah Bonnell, we are committed to ensuring that all young people get the best opportunities to succeed, whatever their background, and I look forward to seeing them fulfil their potential.”
