Year 8 & 9 Visit to Spain March 2010
Categories: General News
Twenty one students from Years 8 and 9 accompanied by Ms Jacobs and Ms Bowden were lucky to visit the magnificent Moorish cities of Seville, Cordoba and Granada. The rain was pouring down on our arrival (we were told that this part of Spain had endured three months continuous rain) however the sun shone for the next four days.
The girls visited the Royal Palace and Cathedral in Seville. We also enjoyed a boat ride on the River Guadalquivir.
Many girls spent much of their money here. A very classy chocolate shop did very well I trust the chocolates reached all mothers for Mothers’ Day.
A day was spent in Cordoba , sampling the delights of the tenth century mosque, one of the largest built at the time. We were able to enjoy our picnic lunch in the Patio de Naranjos ( orange trees ) again the girls were able to indulge in their favourite hobby of shopping.
Our final day was spent in Granada staying in a charming hotel in the city centre. We visited the Alhambra (Red Palace) one the most famous sites in Europe. We enjoyed the craftsmanship and skills of the artisans from the twelfth century.
During our visit we were able to appreciate the beauty of the three religions Judaism, Christianity and Islam which were so prevalent over such a long period of time in Spain.
