Year 6 - 7 Transition (September 2020)

Students starting Year 7 in September will have the opportunity to spend a day at Sarah Bonnell during the previous July. Contact with the primary school is also made during the summer term before entry to ensure a smooth transition to the secondary phase of education.

The LEA admissions policy is contained in their booklet: "Moving from Primary to Secondary School". All parents with children transferring to secondary school will receive a copy of this booklet.

We welcome visits by prospective students and their parent/carers. In early October each year the school holds an Open Evening for current and prospective parents, when displays and exhibitions by staff and students can be viewed. This is followed by 5 Open Days when tours of the school are available during normal school hours. A visit to the school outside these days can be arranged by appointment.

Further Information regarding the LEA admissions policy can be found at Newham School Admissions, from the information booklets or by clicking this link:

In Year Admissions (2019-20)

The LEA coordinates entry to Newham schools and will notify the school and parent when a place is allocated. For entries during the school year, we will invite the parent/carer and daughter to a pre-admission interview. If your daughter has previously attended a school in the UK, we will ask them to provide information on your daughter’s attendance, punctuality, behaviour and attainment so we can ensure she is supported from the start of her time here with us.

Determined Admission Arrangements - September 2020

Determined Admission Arrangements - September 2020

The law requires that all schools must have admission arrangements that clearly set out how children will be admitted, including the criteria that will be applied if there are more applications than places at the school. Admission arrangements are determined by admission authorities.

All admission authorities must formally agree admission arrangements annually, even if they have not changed from previous years and a consultation has not been required. Admission authorities must determine admission arrangements for entry in September 2020, by 28 February 2019.  Sarah Bonnell School is part of the Newham Community Schools Trust or Trust and we have formally agreed to adopt the LB Newham’s admission arrangements for September 2020.

For any proposed changes to the existing determined arrangements a formal consultation must take place and must be for a minimum of 6 weeks and must take place between 1 October and 31 January of the school year before those arrangements are to apply. For example: for arrangements which are to apply to applications in 2019 (entry in September 2020), consultation must be completed by 31 January 2019. This consultation period allows parents, other schools, religious authorities and the local community to raise any concerns about proposed arrangements.  We did not propose any changes for 2020 as our changes were made and consulted upon for entry in September 2019

You can object to these arrangements or the arrangements of any school by referring to the Office of the Schools Adjudicator. Objections to admission arrangements for entry in September 2020 must be referred to the Adjudicator by 15 May 2019. Any decision of the Adjudicator must be acted on by the admission authority and admission arrangements amended accordingly.
