The Mathematics Curriculum Area uses Edexcel Specification and units taught build on existing Key Stage 3 learning, whilst also introducing new mathematical knowledge, understanding and skills. All students follow the National Curriculum to their appropriate level, covering number, algebra, ratio, proportion and rates of change, geometry and measures, probability and statistics. Recognising the importance of Mathematics in their own lives and in society, students learn to make informed decisions about the use of technology, the management of money, further learning opportunities and career choices.
In light of new curriculum changes to GCSE, Key Stage 4 teaching begins in Year 9 where student gain a solid understanding of Foundation GCSE. In Year 10 and Year 11 students are taught either the Higher or Foundation GCSE specification. High achieving students in Year 10 also have the opportunity to work on the AQA Certificate in Further Maths.
