Design & Technology

What Is Design Technology?

Design and Technology works to prepare students to participate in, and work with, tomorrow's rapidly changing technologies.

They learn to think and intervene creatively to improve the quality of life-of themselves, of those around them and those in the wider world.

The subject calls for students to become autonomous and creative problem solvers, as individuals and as members of a team.

They must look for needs, wants and opportunities and respond to them by developing a range of ideas and making products and systems.

They combine practical skills with an understanding of aesthetics, social and environmental issues, function and industrial practices.

As they do so, they reflect on and evaluate present and past Design and Technology, its uses and effects. They consider the future and how the impact of ever developing technologies and materials might impact on people, communities, the economy and the environment.

Through Design and Technology, all students can become discriminating and informed users of products, and become the innovators of tomorrow.
