Message to girls attending Newham secondary schools and their parents/carers from the Joint Director of Public Health, Rachel Flowers
HPV vaccine programme in Newham schools
We were very sad to hear about the death of a school girl in Coventry, Natalie Morton, which has been covered in the national news. We now know that it is extremely unlikely that Natalie’s death was associated in any way with the HPV vaccine. We have considered this issue carefully and decided to continue with our schools vaccination programme that starts in some local schools tomorrow (October 1).
We would like to reassure you that the vaccine has passed very rigorous safety tests and that over one million doses have now been given in the UK.
If you would like more information about the vaccine please visit the NHS Choices website at www.nhs.uk or call NHS Direct on 0845 46 47.
